My daughter called the other night and wanted to know if I remembered any of the Christmas books I read to her when she was little. She wants to give a few good ones to a friend whose baby will be celebrating her first Christmas. Of course, the first few we both recalled were The Night Before Christmas and How The Grinch Stole Christmas, but then Katy asked, "Wasn't there one about a mouse?" There WAS! "Merry Christmas, Mouse" by Laura Numeroff & Felicia Bond! Katy loved it because it featured the same mouse in one of her other favorite books, "When You Give A Mouse A Cookie". Then we remembered Richard Scarry's Best Christmas Book Ever and a few more. Then, at the same time, we both shouted "The Snowman"!. (Raymond Briggs). The book is stunningly beautiful and has no words. There was an animated TV special of "The Snowman" released in the early 80s which my family wore out once it came to VHS. Fortunately, kids of all ages can watch The Snowman on youtube nowadays.

Consider getting some of these classics for some of the wee ones in your life. In fact, get copies for yourself so you can curl up with a cup of cocoa and feel all the feels from Christmases past.
