Getting over somebody and moving on can be tough, but the experts at Cosmo have a few tips to help.

The story is called "20 Things I'd Wish I'd Known About Getting Over an Ex When I Was Younger." A few highlights:

Believe that you will date again -- that you'll be attracted to someone and they'll be attracted to you, too.

There's no time limit as far as when you need to be "over" somebody, and just because you're not ready to move on doesn't mean you're "wallowing," no matter what your friends say.

It's okay to hate your ex once in awhile, just a little bit.

No drunk texting or chatting allowed. You know that's a recipe for disaster.

Your worth isn't tied to another person. You are strong and you don't need another person to "complete" you.

And the last tip is the big takeaway:

20. It didn't work because it wasn't right. This is the most important lesson, because it'll help you move on and find a partner who is right for you.

I hope you don't have to suffer a painful breakup, but hey -- it happens to all of us at some point, and you'll be fine!
