We have some amazing museums around the Sound, but paying to get into them can add up.

Unless you're savvy about taking advantage of free days or special discounts, which almost every museum does.

For instance, the Seattle Art Museum is free every first Thursday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and any special exhibits at SAM are half price. First Fridays of the month are free for seniors.

The beatiful and new-ish) KidsQuest Children's Museum in Bellevue does all kinds of discounts: Active military members (with ID) and their families get $1 off general admission.
Gold Star military families get in free. Active duty military families are free as part of the Blue Star Museums program from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It's not a huge price cut, but hey, why not take advantage of it?

Your Guide to the City’s Best Free & Cheap Museum Days from the always-dependable Red Tricycle Seattle website has a whole lilst of cool museums and the specifics about discounts and freebies: Seattle Children's Museum, Bellevue Arts Museum, the Frye, the Henry, the Wing Luke Museum, the Museum of Flight . . . . So much to see!

Use it for your family, or keep it handy when out of town visitors drop in the summer asking "what should we do today?"
