If you ask me, nothing takes the gloom out of the beginning of fall like a hot, spicy brat slathered in brown mustard and a frosty stein of Bavarian beer. Or rather, bier. It’s the only time non-stop oom-pah-pah music makes sense to me, too. I’ve got some German in me, as do about a million other Washington State residents, so there are celebrations all over the place, from late September well into October. Or rather, Oktober. I put together a list of some of the notable Oktoberfests around the Sound and beyond. BTW, if you’re interested in the real Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, it goes through October 6. Just FYI. Prost!

  • Oktoberfest at McMenamin’s through September 29. At one of the PNW’s many McMenamins locations you’ll find beer,  brats and music.
  • Everett Sausage Festival September 27-29. They go Bavarian up north with a carnival, arts and crafts, children’s games, family entertainment, food booths, traditional dinner, and Bavarian beer garden and wine bar.
  • Oktoberfest in Bellingham September 27. Local breweries and food vendors will feature Oktoberfest specials.
  • Spokane Oktoberfest September 27-29. Drinking, dancing, eating and singing at CenterPlace Regional Event Center in Spokane Valley.
  • Oktoberfest of the Austria Club of Washington in Seattle, September 28. It’s the next best thing to an authentic Bavarian beer tent, with typical foods and beverages. and guess who’s performing? Yup:  Happy Hans and the Enzian Schuhplattler.
  • Tacoma Oktoberfest September 28. Attention South Sound: Dystopian State Brewing Company hosts this one, packed with polka, brats, pretzels, beer, and more!
  • Leavenworth Oktoberfest October 4-19. You know they’re going to do it right in our state’s most Bavarian of towns. They expect like 10,000 attendees, so plan on a packed festival. They’ve got the keg tapping ceremony every Saturday at 1pm, the beer, the music, the food, and more beer. Free shuttles within Leavenworth and shuttles outside of town for a fee
  • Bier on the Pier in Anacortes October 4-5. Drinks from 40 breweries, wineries, and cideries along with authentic food and live music. (21+)
  • Oktoberfest Northwest in Puyallup at the Washington State Fair Events Center October 4-6.Home of the Hammerschlagen Tournament of Champions in which people try to drive a nail into wood faster than their opponents. All-ages until 7pm, 21+ after 7pm.
  • Trucktoberfest in Seattle’s South Lake Union Discovery Center, October 5. Pairing food truck grub with some of the world’s best breweries.
