I like this -- first we get a weekend, and then three days later we get a major holiday!

Here's a rundown of a few fun things to do around the Sound on this pre-July 4 weekend:

  • Mariners are back home and hosting the Kansas City Royals at Safeco Field.   Friday game time is 7:10pm with a Guys Night Out Ticket Special.  Saturday the fun begins at 7:10pm with the Turn Ahead the Clock Night – a futuristic Mariners cap for the first 20,000 fans.  Sunday the first pitch is at 1:10pm and it’s James Paxton Bobblehead Day for the first 20,000 Big Maple fans.
  • Sounders play the Portland Timbers at CenturyLink Field Saturday at 1:30pm.
  • Seattle Reign take on the Portland Thorns in women’s soccer at Memorial Stadium, Saturday at 7pm.
  • Seattle Storm face the Connecticut Sun Sunday at Key Arena, 4pm.
  • Tacoma Rainiers go up against the Reno Aces at Cheney Stadium.  Friday game starts at 7:05pm and it’s Boy Scout Night with Friday Night Fireworks after the game.  Saturday the game starts at  5:05pm and back by popular demand it’s Silver Bullet Saturday. Opening pitch on Sunday is at 1:35pm with their Salute to Armed Forces Day.
  • Marymoor Park Concerts On Saturday starting at 6pm it’s the I Love the 90’s Tour with Salt-n-Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Rob Base, Young MC & DJ Kool. Then on Sunday night at 7 it’s Vance Joy with Mondo Cozmo.
  • Kenmore Art Show through Sunday at Bastyr University.
  • Seattle Night Ride – Friday night . . . A 14-mile flat route that  begins in Ballard at Peddler Brewing Company along the Burke-Gilman Trail and winds through Fremont, Lake Union, & Queen Anne. In addition to your helmet, a HEAD LIGHT, RED TAIL LIGHT and a red rear reflector are required for this ride.
  • Greenwood Car Show Saturday from 8am to 4pm. Classic cars,  hot rods, antique wonders, live bands, kids’ activities, and vendors on Greenwood Avenue N. (from N. 65th to N. 90th).
  • Urban Craft Uprising Summer Show Saturday and Sunday. Shop for handcrafted clothing, jewelry, toys, stationery, art, candles, housewares, and food in the Exhibition Hall at Seattle Center. Free.
  • Gig Harbor Wings & Wheels Saturday and Sunday at the Tacoma Narrows Airport –- multiple live aerobatic performances and fly-overs, dozens of planes on static display, a 200+ count car show on Sunday only, vendors, food, a beer garden, and activities for the kids. Free.

And speaking of the Fourth, here's our guide to where the fireworks will be, in Seattle and way beyond Seattle.

Have fun out there!
