Labor Day Weekend. Does it feel like summer's over? Well, technically it's not, but kids are back in school. There's that tinge of golden light toward evening, and a chill in the air when the sun goes down. The Washington State Fair, a.k.a. The Puyallup, is starting. Bumbershoot is underway. And Dave Matthews is doing his annual three-day-weekend at The Gorge. Those are all pretty solid signs that autumn is arriving soon in the PNW. But it's not going be dark and rainy this weekend, so let's make the best of it. Just look at your choices:

  • Bumbershoot Friday – Sunday, Seattle Center. Celebrate the end of summer with Seattle’s spectacular festival of music, film, comedy, and arts in 13 venues at Seattle Center, including a main stage in Memorial Stadium. Free for children age 7 and younger, and seniors age 70+.
  • Evergreen State Fair  Through Monday. Meet farm animals, watch pigs race, eat fair food, and catch a show in Monroe.
  • Washington State Fair Friday through Sept. 23. Animals, rides, rodeo, food, and lots of great live music at the Puyallup fair, the largest, oldest, and most popular fair in the state. Closed Tuesdays.
  • Seattle Sounders host Kansas City at CenturyLink Field, Saturday, 1pm
  • Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles Monday, 6:10pm, Safeco Field
  • Zac Brown Band with One Republic, Friday, 7pm, Safeco Field.
  • Foo Fighters Saturday, 8pm, Safeco Field.
  • Rod Stewart & Cyndi Lauper Saturday, 7:30pm, White River Amphitheatre
  • Brandi Carlile Moore Theater, Saturday, 7:30pm
  • Dave Matthews Band Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 5pm at the Gorge
  • Bremerton Blackberry Festival Saturday – Monday, on the waterfront in downtown Bremerton. Family-friendly festival with blackberry treats, wine, music, and kids activities.
  • Oak Harbor Music Festival  Friday – Sunday on Whidbey Island. 30 bands playing all types of music on two stages, beer & wine, food vendors, and arts & crafs. Free.
  • PAX West Video Game Expo Friday - Monday at the Washington State Convention Center. The mother of all gamer gatherings.
  • Night of Board Gaming for Good on Top of the World   Friday, 6pm to 1am. A $79 ticket includes a buffet dinner, two $10 vouchers for the game store, and all of the games you can play from the game library, with views from the 76th floor of Columbia Tower to support charity.
