Autumn is in the air! What to do this weekend around the Sound

The Storm in the finals, the Mariners in town, Huskies at home, lots of music, festivals galore. There may not be lots of sunshine this weekend but there's lots to do.

I'm pretty sure there are people in many parts of the country who don't have this much fun stuff to choose from on a typical weekend. And this is one of the reasons we love the PNW, right? Here's just a sampling of what you could do this weekend:

  • Evanescense at White River Amphitheatre, Friday 7pm
  • The Mavericks and Los Lobos at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, Saturday at 6:30pm.
  • Sam Smith at Key Arena, Saturday at 8pm.
  • Jason Mraz at Marymoor Saturday & Sunday at 8pm.
  • Trombone Shorty at Woodland Park ZooTunes, Sunday, 5pm.
  • Seattle Mariners Baseball Friday – Sunday. The Yankees are in town.  Friday game starts at 7:10, Saturday starts at 6:10 and Sunday starts at 1:10pm.
  • Seattle Storm Basketball Friday, 6pm.The Storm take on the Washington Mystics in Game 1 of the 5 game WNBA Finals set at Key Arena.  (Sunday’s Game will be at 12:30.)
  • University of Washington Husky Football Saturday, 2pm. The Dawgs take on the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at Husky Stadium.
  • Washington State University Football Saturday, 8pm.Thee Cougs are home against San Jose State at Martin Stadium.  
  • Seattle Seahawks Football Sunday, 1:25pm. The Hawks are in Denver at Mile High stadium to play the Broncos.
  • Something Magical  with Billy Kidd Friday & Saturday, 8pm. This female magician combines comedy, illusion, audience interaction, acrobatics, escape, and mind-reading at Hale’s Ales Palladium Theater in Ballard.
  • Washington State Fair continues all weekend. Animals, rides, rodeo, food, and entertainment at the largest, oldest, and most popular fair in the state. Closed Tuesdays.
  • Art Uncorked Friday, 6pm  (VIP 4:30pm) Taste samples from 22 wineries at a Mercer Island wine tasting, with art vendors, live music, and food for sale in tents in the sculpture garden at 78th Ave SE & Sunset Highway for age 21+ (except kids in strollers).
  • San Gennaro Festival of Seattle  Friday – Sunday. Italian food, Italian music, a beer and wine garden, children’s activities, and weekend cooking demonstrations at the Italian street fair on Angelo Street in Georgetown. Free.
  • Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival Friday – Sunday. Art, bands, food vendors, a beer garden, a parade (Saturday 10:30am), and fireworks (Saturday at dusk). Parking. Free.
  • Wooden Boat Festival  Friday – Sunday. Over 300 boats on land and water, 120 presentations, dozens of exhibitors, live music all day every day, interactive exhibits for kids, and plenty of local food, beer, and wine options to satisfy everyone. Meet expert craftsmen and wooden boat enthusiasts in Port Townsend. Just down the street is the Crafts by the Dock crafts fair Sat. & Sun.
  • Thai Festival Saturday, 11am – 5pm. The cuisine, entertainment, and arts & crafts of Thailand in the parking lot of North Seattle College. Entertainment program. Free.
  • Arts-A-Glow Saturday, 5 – 10pm. A Lantern festival that offers entertainment, food trucks, an 8 p.m. lantern procession with a band, and a dance party at Dottie Harper Park in Burien. Free.
  • Happy Tails Wine Walk Saturday. Happy dogs and happy owners in a casual walk to 20 wineries, plus a dog zone with games, pet supply vendors, and a few food trucks in Woodinville. Bring age 21 ID; a dog is optional.
  • Federal Way Rhythm & Brews Festival Saturday at noon. Thirty local craft brews (plus wine and cider), 4 local bands, and 3 food trucks at Town Square Park for age 21+. No dogs.
  • Sunsets in Snohomish Wine Walk Saturday, 4-8pm. Enjoy Small-town wine tasting. A ticket gets you 8 tastes in downtown Snohomish shops for age 21+.
  • Seattle Design Festival block party. Saturday & Sunday. See creative large-scale designs at Seattle Design Festival Block Party, with exhibits and performances at Occidental Square Park in Pioneer Square. Free.
  • Frank Hansen Memorial Race Regatta Saturday & Sunday. Watch outboard hydroplanes race up to 100 miles per hour and visit the pit area (if you wear shoes and sign a waiver) during mini hydroplane races at Angle Lake Park in SeaTac. Limited parking. Free.
  • Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival Sunday. This fun Hawaiian festival has songs, performances, films, historical exhibits, food, and traditional arts and crafts at Seattle Center. Free.  This year’s headliner – Ho’Aikane.
