Around the Sound this weekend: Chocolate, cars, and appreciation for vets

Vets Aid on Sunday is the big music event this weekend, but chocolate lovers and car nuts can have their fun too

It's Veteran's Day Weekend, so in addition to everything on this list, there are a ton of vets-related things to do and see, and I put that list together here. But look what else is going on!

  • VetsAid Sunday, 6pm. Joe Walsh and Don Henley from the Eagles, James Taylor, Ringo Starr (he used to be a Beatle,) and country star Chris Stapleton in a big benefit for Veterans organizations. Tacoma Dome.
  • Northwest Chocolate Festival Saturday & Sunday. They say it’s the largest gathering of artisan chocolate makers in the world. Exhibitors from 20 countries delight your senses with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, inclusion bars, decadent desserts, truffles, bonbons, molten chocolate cakes, and caramels – all made by hand with the finest ingredients. Taste chocolate, attend workshops, and shop from 80 vendors at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal.
  • Sea to Sky Seattle Through Monday.  Annual West Coast Swing Dance Convention.  Take professional workshops and enjoy DJ dances at the DoubleTree Hotel in SeaTac.
  • Newport Ski Swap Friday & Saturday. A huge consignment sale that includes skis, snowboards, and snowshoes at Newport High School in Bellevue. Free.
  • Best of the Northwest Art and Fine Craft Show, Fall Friday – Sunday.
  • 100 artists displaying jewelry, clothing, paintings, glass art, and sculptures plus food trucks at Hangar 30 in Magnuson Park.
  • Seattle International Auto Show  Friday through Monday. See 400 of the latest cars and trucks at CenturyLink Field Event Center.
  • Winter Beer Taste  Saturday, 7 to 10pm.
  • Local brews, pub snacks, and a silent auction of beer items at Phinney Neighborhood Center. Sample 75+ winter ales, special brews, and ciders from over 35 of your favorite local microbreweries in one historic old schoolhouse for a cozy, fun night of beer drinking.
  • Family Jewels Kenmore Ball Crawl  Saturday, 1 to 5pm.
  • Enjoy a taster tray at each of Cairn BrewingNine Yards Brewing and 192 Brewing Company, the local craft breweries located on Kenmore's Brew Row, right on the Burke Gilman trail. The Ball Crawl benefits the Family Jewels Foundation, a Bothell charity whose vision is to eradicate preventable testicular cancer deaths.  
  • Hope for Housing  Saturday, 6 – 9:30pm. Taste a variety of luscious wines, savor sumptuous appetizers and desserts and enjoy the tunes of musician Steve Olson. There will be a silent auction full of great items and all wine will be available to purchase. Supports families moving from homelessness to housing. At St. Stephen the Martyr in Renton.
  • South Sound Winter Beer Festival Saturday, noon – 6pm. Bringing the first taste of winter beers to the South Sound from 34 Washington breweries. Sample seasonal favorites such as dark imperial stouts, roasty porters, strong beers, Scottish ales, barrel-aged surprises, spiced ales, piney IPAs and many more creative brews for the season!  With food for sale at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall for age 21+. Costumes welcome.
  • Seattle Slack Key Festival Sunday, 1 – 6pm. Aloha! The 10th Annual Seattle Slack Key Festival features many of Hawai'i's Master Musicians.  Also enjoy Hawai'i's tropical flowers, food and crafts and prize drawings.   Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien.
