There are lots of ways to celebrate Father's Day. Maybe you start Dad's day with breakfast in bed, treat him to a fancy brunch, take the family to a baseball game, or Mom whips up Dad's favorite dinner later in the day. Nothing wrong with any of that. But if you've commemorated more than a few Father's Days in your life, maybe you're scratching your head asking yourself, "How can we make it different this year?"  Well . . . problem solved. We're doing a Father's Day BBQ on Blake Island with our friends at Seattle's Argosy Cruises.

Here's how Argosy describes the plan for Sunday, June 16:

Celebrate the dad in your life with a day full of fun. Hop on the boat and set out to the Tillicum longhouse on Blake Island to enjoy a BBQ buffet, guided indoor & outdoor activities, entertainment with 94.1 The Sound and backyard games.

Your experience includes:

  • Narrated cruise to and from Blake Island
  • BBQ buffet featuring ribs, veggie burgers, fish and all the fixings
  • Rotating guided activities, backyard games and more!
  • Time to explore the beaches and trails
  • A full bar featuring local beer on tap

Fun, right? My son Dawson is seven, and right now he's at this stage where he's a sponge when it comes to learning new things, so besides the pure fun of a boat ride and hanging out in nature, I think he's going to be wide-eyed and all ears as we learn about the history and traditions of Blake Island . . . . and then, we eat, play, and explore! To tell you the truth, since I came to parenthood a lot later in life than the typical dad, I look at Father's Day as a celebration of the incredible gift my son has been to me. So to be able to do something that's fun for him as well as a relaxing few hours for me? That's a win-win!

The whole thing is four hours, dock to dock to dock -- from 11:30am to 3:30pm on Father's Day. If you've never been, Blake Island is between West Seattle and the Kitsap Peninsula, just above Vashon Island -- an easy cruise from the Seattle waterfront.

You can click through right now to buy tickets, with a nice discount for Sound listeners, from this page on our website.  You can also enter to win a pair of tickets.

I hope you'll come along on this adventure, whether you have a dad, or you are a dad, or all of the above.
