We're lucky around here -- our city is full of great restaurants AND great views.

I'm pretty sure there used to be an old cliche about restaurants  . . . . something about "the better the view, the worse the food." That's sure not true around here, and to prove it, Eater Seattle put together a list of 17 Restaurants with the Best Views in Seattle. These are great spots to dazzle out-of-town visitors, impress a date, or just bask in the beauty and the bouinty of the Puget Sound.

There are the classics, like Ray's Boathouse on Shilshole in Ballard -- if you take guests here, they get the one-two punch of a knockout water view and the fresh seafood we're known for in the Northwest.

The list also includes Westward in Wallingford, where you're closer to the water and the view is across Lake Union south to the dazzling Seattle skyline. Agua Verde in the U DIstrict is one of the most budget-friendly spots on the list, with its fresh, casual Mexican food and a sweet deck overlooking Lake Union.

On the other end of the specrutm, there's Canlis -- Seattle's ultimate spendy "special occasion" destination with incredible views day or night, summer or winter. (Insider tip, from me: Try happy hour or an after-dinner drink in the lounge and get the Canlis experience and view without spending a fortune. But do dress up no matter when you go. This is not the spot to wear a UW hoodie and a pair of flipflops.)

The best view from a new-ish spot is the sleek MBar in South Lake Union. The magic starts when you step into a private elevator off the lobby of a modern office building and you're whisked to the top of the building where the restaurant's glass walls give you an epic view everywhere you look . . . and then there's a deck outside, too. On a warm summer evening this place is stunning, and probably packed, too.

There are more possibilities; here's the full list, with links and info for each place. Have fun out there!
