Where to get lost in a corn maze around the sound this fall

It's an autumn ritual -- get lost in a corn maze, and pick up a pumpkin while you're at it. Here's where to go, wherever you live.

The last time I visited a corn maze, my son was maybe five years old. We entered, walked about 50 feet down the path between two walls of giant cornstalks, and he looked up at me with skepticism in his eyes. "Dad, I don't like this," he said. "Can we go back?" It was a chilly autumn afternoon, rain was threatening, and honestly, I didn't have a lot of confidence in my ability to navigate our way out of the maze in a timely fashion, so I immediately gave him an enthusiastic, "Yup!" and we were out of there.

If you and your family are a little more intrepid than we were, you're in luck, because there are a ton of corn mazes in every direction around the Sound. A couple of highlights:

The Farm at Swan's Trail in Snohomish has gotten some coverage online and on TV because their giant 12-acre maze is shaped like a map of Washington State, complete with towns and highways and landmarks like the Space Needle along the way. So if you know your geography, it should be a no-brainer to find your way out of this thing.

Down in Auburn at Mosby Farms, you can bring your dog to help sniff your way through their impeccable maintained maze. Maybe  that's the place where my son and I can get our courage up to try it again.

Carleton Farms in Lake Stevens has a fun twist to their corn maze -- you get to solve the mystery of what happened to the missing Farmer Brown by following clues as you wind through the maze.

You've got way more options than these, depending on what part of the Sound you live in, and how far you'd like to drive.

Check out these great lists and head out for the fun.
