July 4 is behind us, and now it's REALLY summer in the PNW -- a great chance to bask in a gorgeous Puget Sound summer night and catch an outdoor movie.

One night last summer my wife and I had a romantic getaway at a hotel in downtown Seattle. We had a nice dinner someplace in South Lake Union, walked around as the sun went down, and stumbled upon a screening of The Big Lebowski on the lawn of the SLU Discovery Center. Since the movie was like half over, they let us in for free, and we kicked it on the lawn for a while as fans of The Dude stumbled around the grounds sipping white Russians, that character's libation of choice. It was hilarious, and fun, and so different from seeing a film in a theater or flopping down on the couch with Netflix on the flatscreen.

Outdoor movies in the summertime are fun . . . and you might be surprised at how many opportunities you have to catch films under the stars while the weather's great around the Sound.

Seattle Magazine put a great guide together -- Where to Watch Outdoor Movies this Summer. From Downtown Bellevue to Bothell, Marymoor Park in Redmond, the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma, Peddler Brewing Company in Ballard, Auburn, to West Seattle (my neck of the woods) and beyond, you've got lots of options. And in most cases, these are big hit movies. Some are aimed at kids (Despicable Me 3, the Lego Ninjago Movie) , and some are for more adult tastes (Bridesmaides, Zoolander) so check ahead and see what's playing, as well as rules and FAQs for each location.

Here's the link. Have fun watching the stars, under the stars!
